Testing for the High School Equivalency Diploma
Who can take the test?
Anyone living in Indiana for a minimum of 30 days before taking the test.
Those who have not already earned a diploma from an accredited high school in the United States.
Students who are at least 16 years of age.
How much does the test cost?
Testing costs are $90 or less, which includes all of the tests, test scoring, transcripts and diploma.
DWD has partnered with Anthem BlueCross BlueShield to provide HIP Plus members with free vouchers that cover the cost of the Indiana HSE test.
If the test fees are a barrier, your instructor may know of other sources of funding.
What is the HSED Test like?
The High School Equivalency Diploma in Indiana is called the TASC (Test of Adult Secondary Completion).
There are 5 sub-tests, and they may be taken one at a time.
Each subject area has different time limits:
Math - 115 min., 46 questions
Social Studies - 90 min., 35 questions
Science - 90 min., 34 questions
Reading & Writing -150 min., 46 questions
Once you take the first sub-test, you have 60 days to complete all 5 sub-tests.
You may retake sub-tests up to 3 times without a waiting period.

Register on-line by clicking HERE. Your instructor will walk you through the on-line registration process.
You may also register in-person at a testing office. Bring ONE government-issued photo ID.
