Participants in RVR’s youth program learn skills such as team-building, as these young people experienced through a simple exercise of constructing a pyramid from paper cups and rubber bands.

Got Bucks?

Youth, whether in or out of school, can always use more. Work experience gives young people the chance to earn wages while working at a real job site.

In several counties, RVR is the intake agent for programs in which children are the ultimate beneficiaries. Click on Child Care Vouchering to learn more.

YOUTH

Youth are the future of our local communities, our states, our nation. RVR is committed to preparing youth for the future by providing the help they need now to stay in school or, if they’ve dropped out of high school, to earn their GED. RVR is committed to helping youth get the skills they need to prepare for the real world of work. Those skills are not just technical. They are the "soft skills," the skills that many employers tell us they value more than anything in a new hire.

"We’ll teach them the technical things," say employers. "You teach them how to work."

That’s why RVR’s programs and services for youth are geared to helping them:

  • develop a good work ethic
  • learn how to work as a member of a team
  • acquire real work experience
  • improve their academic skills, particularly in English and math
  • stay in school or earn their GED
  • grow in leadership skills
  • increase their employability

Innovative TrainingRVR seeks to provide eligible youth with access to innovative training programs in academic, occupational, employability, and leadership skills.

Eligible youth who are out of school may receive one-on-one counseling and case management as RVR helps them become employable. If a youth has not completed high school, the employability plan will almost certainly include earning the GED. It outlines what steps to take to explore career options, including learning what training is required for the particular field.

FunThe plan also spells out the particular "soft" skills needed. We will help the youth gain access to resources that can assist in the cost of occupational skill training. RVR staff will monitor the young person’s progress during training and will assist in job placement efforts at the appropriate time.
