Special Projects Benefit Youth
Financial literacy is the subject of a program being offered in Decatur County, IN, to junior high girls. The project has been made possible by a grant to RVR from the Decatur County Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls. RVR has partnered with MainSource Bank, whose employees are teaching the classes on a range of topics which help the girls toward the goal of financial literacy. Classes are held at MainSource’s corporate headquarters in Greensburg.
At RVR’s Indianapolis office, our older youth participants can enroll in GED preparation classes, as well as in training for Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3). The programs are benefiting young people whom RVR serves under contract with the Indianapolis Private Industry Council. The GED classes, offered at the site since Fall, 2007, have been very successful, averaging 25-30 enrollees at any time, with several having taken the exam and earning the GED. The IC3 class began in January, 2008, and is already full!

Navigator Program in 2 Regions
RVR is coordinating Disability Navigator grant activities in Indiana Workforce Region 5 (Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Morgan, and Shelby counties) and Region 9 (Bartholomew, Dearborn, Decatur, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, and Switzerland counties). The program is educating the regions’ WorkOne staff and Indiana businesses about the value of persons with disabilities in the workplace. Activities have included staff development sessions by nationally known trainers Denise Bissonnette of Diversity World and Steve Savage of Sandy/Savage and Associates and preparation of “Employer Toolkits” for use with business and industry.
